Samsung Besix Arabtec Joint Venture (SBA – JV), who built the building, brought in Mick for last minute addition, as the spire was fitted without lights.

After undergoing Health and Safety training for 3 months, Mick’s daily commute to work included:

  • Taking five lifts to the 160th floor
  • Climbing through a further seven tiers on vertical ladders
  • Squeezing into the 1.5m wide spire and out of a hatch.

The work, which took more than month, was so gruelling the team involved nicknamed themselves ‘the men of steel’.

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and also holds 7 other World Records.
