Defibrillators Saves Lives and you can too!

You may have seen Automated External Defibrillators popping up around the country, more than 100 have been placed outside SPAR shops across Northern Ireland, and also many sports clubs and organisations.

But do you know just how important these lifesaving machines are?

A Derry man has said he would not be alive today but for a defibrillator being available after he collapsed at Lisnagelvin Bowling Club. George Burns from Caw Hill Park said the swift actions of Derry City & Strabane District Council employee, Shaun Harkin, Lisnagelvin club treasurer, Jim Ross and ambulance service staff saved his life.

A Defibrillator is an apparatus used to control heart fibrillation by application of an electric current to the chest wall or heart. Anyone can undergo Sudden Cardiac Arrest, anytime, anywhere. So at Global Horizon Skills, we can train you in the use of a Defibrillator which when used can make the difference between life and death.

Each year in Europe, there are approximately 700,000 cardiac arrests. Early resuscitation and prompt defibrillation (within 2 minutes) can result in >60% survival.

We offer training in Defibrillation to anyone over the age of 18. We also supply Heartsine Defibrillators.

Other training that we can supply is:-

  • Emergency First Aid at Work – a One Day course for anyone working in a low risk environment
  • First Aid at Work – a Three Day course which covers more areas of First Aid
  • First Aid at Work Refresher – a Two Day course for anyone needing to renew their First Aid at Work (time limits apply)
  • Paediatric First Aid – a 6 hour or 12 hour course designed for anyone with a duty of care towards children or babies
